Historique :
La chapelle Saint Roch est un petit monument au sommet de la colline de Bel Air. Près de la chapelle, se trouve une croix monolithique qui pourrait dater du Xème siècle selon certains.La date de 1774 inscrite sur le pignon sud doit être la date d’une restauration d’un monument plus ancien. La dévotion à Saint Roch s’est développée au cours des siècles lors des épidémies de peste.
La chapelle dédiée à saint Roch occupe aujourd’hui un promontoire dominant l’ancienne abbaye Notre-Dame et le bourg médiéval de Daoulas. Bâtie vers le milieu du XVIIIe siècle, ses origines restent encore très obscures (absence d’archives) mais au vu de la toponymie locale elle a très probablement été construite sur un lieu antique, peut-être un fanum (temple) gallo-romain, christianisé par la suite comme le montre la présence d’une croix romane en granit.
