développer, valoriser, et diffuser les connaissances relatives aux acteurs et aux témoins de la Première Guerre mondiale et, par extension, d'autres conflits armés, à partir de l'ensemble des sources accessibles ; sauvegarder la mémoire de ces acteurs et témoins auprès du public ; exploiter et valoriser les fonds d'archives relatifs à la Grande Guerre ou à d'autres conflits armés ; développer notre connaissance historique de ces conflits ; conduire toutes actions et mettre en œuvre tout moyen, quelle qu'en soit la nature, pouvant permettre (ou contribuer à) la réalisation de cet objet (constitution de bases de données historiques ou/et généalogiques, projets numériques, publications, expositions, colloques, etc ; ) ; soutenir d'autres projets poursuivant un but similaire ou relié, au niveau de leur objet ou de leur méthodologie ; poursuivre jusqu'à son terme, sans s'y limiter, le projet éponyme « 1 Jour - 1 Poilu » #1J1P labellisé en 2015 par la Mission du Centenaire
